Add Code Structure User Fields
Prerequisites
- If needed, first create the parent strict or non-strict hierarchy code structure you want to add the user defined fields to. See Create a Code Structure.
- When the user field you intend to add to the parent code structure is also a strict or non-strict hierarchy code structure, also create that code structure.
- Select in the Navigation Menu. The Manage Codes tab window displays. The bottom pane displays the list of user defined code structures, Boolean fields, and date fields.
- Select the parent code structure row you want to add user defined fields to. This enables the middle User Fields pane.
- Click under the list of User Fields. A User Field dialog box displays. The user field is automatically set to "Code."
- Enter a name or data entry for the field.
- Click on the dropdown. Select or . Selecting Text means users must enter the field content.

When you select Structure for the Type, the dropdown is enabled. Select the code structure for the field from the list of available structures. When a code structure is assigned as a user defined field, the code structure data provides the field dropdown selection options for users.
Tip:
Unless designated as a global structure, structures already assigned as user fields elsewhere do not appear in the selection list. If you don't see a code structure you just created, click in the Ribbon Menu.

Either uncheck the option or leave it checked.
Tip:
Required means users must enter text or select a code from the assigned code structure. They cannot leave the field blank.

Click . The assigned structure or text user field is added as a row in the middle User Fields pane.
Tips:
Once a code structure is assigned to the parent code structure as a user defined field, you cannot add user defined fields to the child structure.
To delete a user defined field, select the field row in the middle User Fields pane and click .
