Add Parts to an Assembly

Follow these steps to add parts to an existing assembly.

  1. Select Project Data > Parts in the Navigation Menu. The Manage Parts tab window displays.
  2. Click Assemblies in the Ribbon Menu. A separate Part Assembly window displays.
  3. Click Expand in the Ribbon Menu or expand selected assembly rows as needed.

    Tip:

    You can apply a filter to find a specific assembly or part, click Edit Filter in the lower right hand corner to display the Filter Editor window. Enter your filter criteria and click Apply.

  4. Select the applicable assembly row.
  5. Click Add in the Ribbon Menu. An Add Parts window displays.
  6. Enter search text and click Find or scroll through the parts list to find the parts you want to add to the assembly.
  7. Click on the selection box at the beginning of each part row to select the parts you want to add to the assembly.
  8. Click OK. The parts you selected are added to the assembly.

    Tips:

    Within an assembly, you can create a hierarchy of parent and child parts. Select the parent part in the assembly, and then click Add in the Ribbon Menu to display the Add Parts window. Select the child parts from the Add Parts window and click OK.

    To add a new assembly, first add the assembly as a new part in the master list of parts. See Add Parts to Master List. At a minimum, enter a Part Number name for the assembly and Description, and select the Unit of Measure. Select a Manufacturer and enter a Unit Price as applicable. In the Part Assembly window, select the top node, Assemblies, in the window and click Add in the Ribbon Menu to display the Add Parts window. Select the new assembly part you just added in the master part list and click OK.You can now select the new assembly in the Part Assembly window and add parts to it.

  9. Close the Part Assembly window to return to the Manage Parts tab window.

    Tips:

    To delete a part from an assembly, select the applicable row and click Delete in the Ribbon Menu. A delete confirmation dialog box displays. Click Yes.

    To delete an assembly, select the applicable row and click Delete in the Ribbon Menu. A delete confirmation dialog box displays. Click Yes. You can only delete an assembly that is not being used for a project.

  10. Optional. Close the Manage Parts tab.
