Validate Cost Values
Prerequisites
- The current reporting period performance data has been imported or calculated. This includes the earned value, actual costs and estimate to complete data.
The Validation tab window flags common issues where:
- Actual costs (ACWP) are greater than the estimate at completion (EAC). As a reminder, the EAC is equal to the sum of the cumulative to date actual costs plus the estimate to complete (ETC).
- Earned value (BCWP) has been claimed, but there are no actual costs (ACWP). There may be valid reason for this such as when level of effort occurs earlier or later than planned. Verify this is not a data entry error.
- Actual costs (ACWP) have been incurred, but no earned value (BCWP) has been claimed. There may be valid reason for this. Verify this is not a data entry error.
- EAC or ETC is greater than the budgeted cost of work remaining (BCWR). As a reminder, BCWR is equal to the budget at completion (BAC) less the cumulative to date earned value (BCWP).
You can also use the Validation tab window to quickly scan for missing data, unusual variances or metrics, or other anomalies. Data errors should be corrected before you produce the performance reports for internal management or for delivery to your customer.
